Jaguars Deal Hao to Buccaneers for Skroch
Tuesday, May 21st , 2002
You can't always get what you want, but sometimes you find a deal anyway. The Baseball News Network is reporting that Jacksonville and Tampa Bay have made a swap with 23-year old RHP Liang Hao being shipped to the Buccaneers and in return the Jaguars would get 34-year old RHP Ray Skroch and 20-year old LHP Franklin Montoya.
Jacksonville general manager Jordan Alvarez said the two sides were close to a blockbuster trade before agreeing upon a smaller scale transaction.
"This is just a bit of housekeeping compared to what we wanted to do," he said. "I won't name names, but the potential deal we were close to making would have certainly grabbed some headlines."
A source inside the Jacksonville organization said the two sides might not be done dealing, and another transaction could be in the works.
Hao has made 8 starts so far this year and put up a 0-3 won-lost record with a 3.45 ERA. In 47 innings he has allowed 43 hits, walked 12 and struck out 40.
This year, his stats show Skroch has 8 saves in 15 relief appearances with a 2-1 mark and 1.72 ERA. He has struck out 23 batters and issued 5 walks in 15.2 innings. Opposing clubs have a .277 against him.
