Mercado Goes 5-for-5
|
It doesn't happen very often, but it did for Alberto Mercado -- a 5-hit day. He went on a rampage and sparkled on the diamond at Raymond James Stadium, but the performance lost a little luster when the Buccaneers were downed, 7-4, by the Green Bay Packers.
After his glittering performance, the Tampa Bay shortstop told the press that he "just tried to get myself in a good count and have a good at-bat."
His batting theory paid dividends today as he slammed 5 hits in 5 tries and put his name in the record book.
"I just wish we had added a win in the record book, too," Mercado said.
Alberto Mercado singled in the 1st, doubled in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
Hitting .289 to date, Mercado has 6 home runs and 20 RBIs. He has played in 47 games.
