On Road, Detroit Beats Washington, 4-2
|
Andy Orton, who is tied for 7th in the NBC in doubles with 16, led Detroit to a triumph over Washington. The final score was 4-2. The second baseman went 4 for 5, falling a triple shy of the cycle. He scored 2 runs and added 1 RBI. Gus Pena, the winning pitcher, improved to 5-3. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 6 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 7 and walking 1. The setback makes Washington 28-22.
Orton had a game-changing home run in the top of the seventh. On a full count changeup from James Prevost, he banged a solo home run to left, giving the Lions a 3-2 lead. It was the 5th home run of the year for Orton.
Detroit manager Chris Salerno was pleased with the team's effort. "It was just a good, gutsy performance by everybody," he said.
