Washington Sends St. Louis Packing with 8-2 Loss
|
The Washington Commanders got a marvelous performance from pitcher Scott Elrod. The right-hander kept the St. Louis offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 8-2 Washington victory at Commanders Field. Elrod, now 1-0, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. Early on, the Commanders, at 14-4, have played an impressive brand of baseball.
Kyle Weathersby had a big 2-run home run for the Commanders in the bottom of the first inning. With Washington trailing 2-1 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a curveball from 30-year old right-handed pitcher Tony Palomera and punished it. The result was his 6th home run of the season, which put the Commanders on top, 3-2.
When asked about his performance after the game, Weathersby said: "Like everyone else, I'm just doing my job."
