Steelers Sting Browns, 4-1
|
The Pittsburgh Steelers tallied a win at Heinz Field, throttling the Cleveland Browns, 4-1. Starting pitcher Sam Smyers was a big reason for his team's success. In 6.2 innings, Smyers surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Earning his 10th save for Pittsburgh was Tony Stone.
The Steelers got a big at-bat from first baseman Joe Howard. For the game, Howard went 1-4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 4th home run of the season gave Pittsburgh a 2-1 lead.
"Sam did a heck of a job," said Pittsburgh manager Nick Flanery.
Their 19-33 record puts the Steelers last in the American Conference North.
