The Cincinnati Bengals licked the Pittsburgh Steelers, 6-3. Bob Krause deserved a big chunk of the credit. The catcher was 3-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Bengals. Jon Valles got the win, improving to 4-4. He held the Steelers to 2 runs on 4 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 1 and walking 5. The second-place Bengals go to 24-26.

Jim Bedney, the 31st overall pick in the 2002 draft, took Pittsburgh hurler Matt Rassi deep in the bottom of the third. His 2-run home run put the Bengals on top, 3-1. In all, Bedney had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
