Pittsburgh Upended, 5-3, by New England
|
New England registered a win at Gillette Stadium by beating the Pittsburgh Steelers, 5-3. Pitcher Tony Quintero was one reason why the Patriots triumphed. The winner was Quintero. He threw 8.0 innings of 6-hit ball. The loser was Mario Gamboa. Earning his 9th save for New England was Roberto Velazquez.
Doug Spoo, who is tied for 8th in the ABC with a .430 on-base percentage, helped out the New England cause in the bottom of the second inning with a run-scoring walk. For the game, the first baseman went 1-2 with 2 walks.
New England manager Victor Santos was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys played hard, they played all the way through," he said.
The Patriots improved their record to 17-20 with the win over Pittsburgh.
