Chiefs Win, 7-1, at New York
|
Kansas City pitcher Ryan Gepner had a large part in his team beating the New York Jets, 7-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Gepner yielded 1 run over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 4, and struck out 3. His record improves to 2-2. The Jets fall to 12-17 and continue their uneven start to the 2002 season.
Kansas City used the clutch hitting of Corey Henderson to snag the win. The third baseman drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Chiefs ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
Henderson expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
