Steelers Lose By a Run at Denver
|
The bats were silent much of the day at Invesco Field at Mile High. But 17-year veteran Clint Hiatt produced just enough offense to carry the Broncos past the Pittsburgh Steelers, 3-2. Hiatt hit 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Jose Madrid picked up the win, improving his season record to 3-1. He struck out 4 in 6 innings. The Steelers, at 5-18, have stumbled out of the gate.
The game turned with two out in the bottom of the fourth. That's when Hiatt hit a 2-run home run off Mario Gamboa. It propelled the Broncos into the lead, 3-1.
"I was a little disappointed," said Pittsburgh manager Nick Flanery. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
