Kansas City Downed, 9-5, by Broncos
|
A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs.
Kansas City got a terrific game from third baseman Scott Feller. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Denver, 9-5. Feller was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times. Denver reliever Ben Jordan snagged the win, upping his record to 1-1. Idir Chenzira shouldered the loss.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Mike Blakney came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Kansas City pitcher Idir Chenzira, he hit a first pitch sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Denver on top, 6-5.
"The boys came out and just played their butts off," said Denver manager Tristen Sawyer.
So far, the 2002 season has been disappointing for Kansas City, now 8-12.
